Sit comfortably and let your mind wander off for a few moments.
Even though I label myself as someone who enjoys mornings, I don’t really look forward to getting out of bed on weekdays. The realization of the inevitable stress and annoyances throughout the day can understandably make anyone hesitant. Instead of abruptly getting out of bed in the morning, I’ve started to indulge in a brief meditation session to fortify myself for the upcoming day.

When I mention “meditation,” what’s the initial image that comes to your mind? A group of Tibetan monks in a mountain retreat reciting mantras endlessly? Fortunately, you don’t have to go to such lengths if you don’t wish to. Morning mindfulness meditation can be as brief as five minutes or extend up to 45 minutes, but the key is that it doesn’t have to consume a large chunk of your day. Just find a comfortable spot, sit with crossed legs, and concentrate solely on your breath for a short period. Alternatively, if you’re feeling downcast, attempt gratitude meditation by taking deep breaths while reflecting on things you’re thankful for.
Research has indicated that spending just ten minutes in simple morning meditation can offer various benefits for your mental and emotional well-being, ultimately leading to a more positive day. Individuals who meditate tend to experience decreased levels of stress and anxiety, enhanced focus and productivity, and overall better moods. By devoting a few moments in the morning to center your thoughts and properly awaken, you will be more equipped for the day ahead. It’s akin to coffee, but with added introspection.
