Your personal periodic table could use some variety.

It’s quite fascinating to acknowledge that the human body requires a constant intake of substances that don’t immediately scream “organic”. Take magnesium, for instance. Have you ever observed a chunk of pure magnesium? It’s a dense, lustrous, silver metal. One might mistake it for a component of a robot rather than a human. Yet, magnesium is an essential mineral vital for optimal bodily function, and as per leading nutrition experts, you’re likely not meeting the recommended intake.

Current studies in nutrition indicate that approximately 75% of the population in the United States shows some level of magnesium insufficiency. While the symptoms may not be apparent in the beginning, they can manifest more severely later in life. Magnesium plays a crucial role in maintaining blood circulation, regulating blood pressure, and preserving bone density. Since magnesium is constantly utilized by the body’s cells, its significance can be deceptively understated. Although a deficiency may not be immediately noticeable, in the long run, it could lead to issues like hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and an elevated risk of diabetes.

The encouraging news is that enriching your diet with magnesium is relatively straightforward. This vital mineral is found abundantly in various nutrient-rich foods, such as spinach, pumpkin seeds, almonds, oatmeal, salmon, avocado, and even dark chocolate. Essentially, most of the foods that were considered healthy when you were young are likely good sources of magnesium. If some of these foods don’t align with your preferences, consider consulting a nutritionist to explore magnesium supplementation. It’s a decision you’ll appreciate sooner rather than later.
