Eat These Foods to Get More B12

These’ll really get those neurons firing.

In an age where caffeine rules the energy market with an iron fist, it’s easy to forget that there are natural solutions to sluggishness to be found in natural sources. Case in point, are you getting enough vitamin B12 in your diet? B12 is a very important vitamin that the human body can’t synthesize on its own. You’d think it should be able to, since it helps with the production of DNA and stimulates your nervous system and red blood cells, but nope. We gotta get all of our B12 from outside sources, and some folks ain’t. If you’re not getting enough B12 in your diet, you may become prone to low energy conditions like fatigue, numbness, and muscle weakness. It can even get as bad as full on anemia, and that’s no fun. Luckily, B12 is prevalent in lots of tasty foods. In fact, you probably eat a lot of them without even knowing.

Salmon

Mmm, gotta love that fishy workhorse. A single serving of sockeye salmon can get you 200% of your daily recommended B12 boost. If that sounds a bit strong, you can also get B12 from other fish dishes like tuna, sardines, and trout. Dunno why you’d want to when you can have some bagels and lox, though.

Cheese

Cheese is pretty much everywhere, and in everything. A single ounce of Swiss cheese’ll get you 38% of your daily B12 value. Make yourself a grilled cheese, why dontcha? I like mustard on mine.

Milk

Drinking straight dairy milk is a bit of a divisive topic these days. No matter your opinions on the practice, however, you can’t deny its nutritional value. One glass of dairy milk will get you half your daily B12. Come on, you did it all the time as a kid.

Eggs

Eggs, eggs, eggs. Well, I say “eggs,” but what you’re really looking for is the yolk. Two large egg yolks will get you about 40% of your daily B12. Hard-boiled eggs are a great snack when you need a quick pick-me-up, and you can boil them way in advance.

Nutritional Yeast

A newcomer to the snacking scene, nutritional yeast is good for you vegans out there who can’t eat meat or dairy. There’s no specific value of B12 for nutritional yeast as a whole, but most brands of the stuff are fortified with vitamins. Make sure you check the nutrition block!
