Get a great workout, and have a little fun doing it!
Back in January of 2020, I decided to use some Christmas money to buy something a little different: Ring Fit Adventure, a Nintendo Switch game. I’d been looking into new avenues of exercise, I love video games, and this particular one ended up getting some good press. This ended up being one of my more fortuitous decisions in life, because shortly after that, we were all confined to our homes due to the pandemic. Because of this, for over a year now, Ring Fit has been one of my primary sources of daily exercise, and I’ve felt great.
Ring Fit Adventure uses a special “Ring-Con” and leg strap, into which you mount your Switch’s controllers. When mounted, your controllers can detect movement, pressure, and even your heartrate. Using these gizmos, Ring Fit turns exercise into an adventure where you jog in place to run across vast fields and fight off monsters using all kinds of exercises, including bodyweight lifts, stretches, cardio, and even yoga. Don’t be fooled by the simple set-up, this is a game designed to really make you sweat, and it makes good on that.

Though, in spite of that goal, it’s actually a very accommodating program. You can tweak your difficulty settings based on your age and weight, every session starts with a warm-up and ends with a cool-down, and the game reminds you not to push yourself too hard and to keep a bottle of water nearby. If you’re short on time, there are also lots of fitness minigames and self-contained workout sets you can knock out in a few minutes to get your heartrate up.
If you’ve got a Nintendo Switch and aren’t really into the idea of going outside right now, Ring Fit Adventure is a great way to get off your feet and get pumped up from the comfort of your own home.
