Plan Your Ideal Staycation

Time to channel those childhood rainy days.

So your summer vacation plans have been stymied by the whole global pandemic thing. First of all, let me just say that really stinks. Everyone looks forward to the summer, to getting out of the house and visiting fun, new, and interesting places, and having those plans so decisively canned can be a bit demoralizing. If you’re upset, trust me, I’m right there with you. But the fact of the matter is that long-distance traveling simply isn’t a good idea right now. While I’m sure you’ve grown more than tired of staying home these last few months, you can still have a fun summer staycation to relieve some of that stress. You just need to get creative.

If you’re still getting vacation time off work, don’t just throw it away, put it to use. Redecorate the house, build a little fun-cave for yourself. Stack up pillows, hang up blankets, create a monument to comfiness. Put on your comfiest lounge pants and kick off your socks. A vacation is a time for rest and fun, and you can do that pretty much anywhere, including your own living room.

So what can you actually do? Well, of course, you can sit down and start binge-watching Netflix series, but let’s put a pin in that for the moment. Try a craft project, or learn a new skill. You’ve got the time, do something constructive and cool with your hands. If you miss that summer beach vibe and don’t have a pool, just throw open a window, turn on a two-speed window fan, and just spend the day noodling on a guitar or something. For a more authentic beach feel, fill a big tub with cold salt water and soak your feet.

Rest and recuperation is a vital component of a healthy lifestyle. Maybe you can’t go out partying or traveling, but even just some time where you don’t have to consider the real world for a little while to indulge yourself is still pretty great.
