Handling tea requires precision.
Tea is an exquisite beverage. It’s soothing, invigorating, hydrating, and simply delightful in taste. In addition, it contains a wealth of beneficial antioxidants and catechins that promote clean blood circulation and maintain healthy skin, hair, and nails. However, much like any nutritious food, its nutritional value can be completely compromised by incorrect preparation.
Due to its inherently bitter, earthy flavor, it is understandable that some individuals prefer to enhance their tea with cream and sugar. A small amount of sugar and a touch of cream are acceptable, but if you pour in the entire sugar bowl and a whole carton of cream, it ceases to be tea and becomes more like cream and sugar with a faint tea essence. The excessive sweeteners will diminish the health benefits of the tea, in addition to burdening you with unnecessary calories. The same principle applies to artificial sweeteners like Sweet n’ Low. Although not real sugar, this does not justify adding twenty packets.
Regarding nutrition, it is advisable to prepare your own tea whenever feasible, rather than purchasing pre-bottled versions. Supermarket-bought bottled teas often boast all-natural flavors and attractive leafy labels, but a glance at the nutritional information can reveal sugar and additive levels comparable to some soft drinks. Moreover, when brewing your own tea, it is essential to monitor the steeping time. The longer a tea bag steeps, the higher the caffeine content in the tea. Similar to the issue with additives, tea is most enjoyable when it offers a moderate lift, not the caffeine equivalent of a full can of Coke.
