Take a Break Once in a While

Personal days are there for a reason.

With everyone working from home, an odd stigma has cropped up that you shouldn’t take a break from your work or responsibilities unless something really terrible happens. After all, in normal circumstances, taking a personal day would just mean staying home, but you’re already home. Let me tell you, this is a load of bull honkey. We all need to take a break once in a while, and considering it’s supposed to be Spring Break right now, I’d say now’s a pretty good time.

Now, I’m not telling you to strip to your undies and hit the beach. You very much should not do that right now. There are a lot of people hitting beaches right now and, surprise surprise, a lot of COVID cases following them. You should still stay home, or at least in close proximity of your home. Rather, just take a break, whether it be from work or some other kind of commitment. Don’t want to work out for a couple of days? Don’t! Tired of reading the news? Stop for a little while!

The entire point of a break is to disconnect from the stressors of daily life. Even if you’re working from home, you’re still working, likely on top of a bunch of other things demanding your attention. Obviously, you shouldn’t shirk the important stuff (at least not for too long), but everyone’s entitled to a little cooldown period once in a while. Just for a couple of days, indulge yourself. Watch that show you’ve been meaning to watch, start writing that book, eat something tasty, sunbathe on the front lawn all day; whatever makes you happy and helps you forget your troubles for a blessed moment, it’s worth doing once in a while.
