Need to slim down? Try interval training.
Science has done it again. They have discovered a better way
to exercise our waistline without having to just run on a treadmill and do
crunches for an hour straight, and we’ve probably already known it all along.
Research now suggests the best way to trim down our waistline is by interval
training – quick intervals of high-intensity workouts and rest periods.
In 2019, a study was published by the British Journal of Sports Medicine which analyzed more than 70 previous studies comparing interval training to steady-state cardio workouts. The study found that participants who completed at least four weeks of interval training reduced their fat mass by almost 30 percent more than participants who completed other exercises for the same amount of time.
There are many different ways one can do interval training,
and many of the exercises can be done at home without any specialized
equipment. For example, step-up exercises can be done on your staircase or the
curb of your driveway (watch out for cars and any curious on-lookers). And
remember, the most important thing to focus on when doing these workouts is
your form.
Form is important when doing any exercise, and this is no less true for high intensity interval training. So if you’re new to the game, make sure you get advice from more familiarized persons, or even better yet, a workout coach. The reason is because when you’re learning a new movement for the first time, you need to learn it correctly in order to practice and perform it correctly.
