The typical young adult male has an average weight of about 197 pounds, while the typical young adult female weighs around 171 pounds. An average dumbbell weighs between 12 and 20 pounds. Do you grasp what I’m implying? If you lack weights to lift, your body itself can offer sufficient resistance, even if you are in good physical shape. Bodyweight exercises, sometimes referred to as the “convict workout,” though less flattering, are a straightforward, cost-effective method of working out if you are unable to access a gym. Additionally, they provide both muscular strength and cardiovascular benefits in one go.
If you aim for a goal, consider taking on the “Deck of Suffering.” Allegedly, this is a favored activity among inmates as there’s typically a deck of cards available to assist with it. Select four different exercises and associate them with each card suit. For instance, clubs represent push-ups, spades correspond to pull-ups, diamonds signify squats, and hearts indicate hanging leg raises. Draw a card from the deck, and perform a set of the exercise associated with that suit for the number of repetitions indicated. Face cards have a value of ten, while an ace represents eleven. Continue until you go through the entire deck, perhaps incorporating some burpees at the conclusion. It may not be enjoyable, but it will definitely raise your heart rate, I can assure you of that.
Adopting a workout routine akin to that of a prisoner may not sound particularly enticing at this moment, but ponder on this: in a typical prison narrative, what is the proportion of slender individuals to muscular individuals? Precisely.
